What kind of counselling does KN Therapy offer?

At KN Therapy, I offer online counselling for both individuals and couples. For individuals, I can help with things like identity and self-esteem issues, anxiety and depression, eating disorders, addictions, life/balance challenges, sexuality and identity, communication, emotional regulation, and more. For couples, I support issues like intimacy or sexual incompatibility, infidelity, communication breakdowns, conflict resolution, trust issues, power imbalances, premarital/pre-relationship work, and relationship growth.

What is your therapeutic style — what does “Direct AF Approach” mean?

“Direct AF” means I don’t beat around the bush. I’m honest, straightforward, and real. I combine that blunt honesty with deep empathy and respect. My clients often describe me as “a quirky aunt with a weird sense of humour, lots of psychology knowledge, and a firm mattress approach” — meaning I’ll challenge you when needed, but always with care and zero judgment.

I draw on evidence-informed methods including emotion-focused therapy, experiential and cognitive approaches, as well as modalities like Internal Family Systems, the Gottman Method, and other relational-/self-work frameworks — but always adapt according to what you need and what feels right for you.

How much does a session cost and how long is it?

Each session is 50 minutes long, with the remainder of the hour used for case-notes and treatment planning. The fee is $195 per session. If a session is cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice, the full fee is charged.

Do you take insurance? Are sessions covered by provincial healthcare?

No — sessions at KN Therapy are not covered by provincial healthcare insurance plans. However, many people’s private or employment-based extended health plans may cover full or partial costs of seeing a registered psychotherapist. Also, psychological services may qualify as a medical expense on your taxes, depending on your jurisdiction.

How can I get started or schedule a session?

Just head over to the “Contact” page on the website and fill out the contact form (your name, e-mail, message, and whether you allow voicemail). I aim to get back within 24 hours. Or you can e-mail me directly at kayla@kntherapy.ca.
